“’Put down your Lederhosen’ cried the rival fans in stadiums since the mid 1970s onwards, especially in western Germany. The response of the team was intelligent, humorous and essentially Bavarian: they put their Lederhosen and wore with pride on the field before the start of the match. 

This defiance was known as “Mia san mia”, “we are who we are” in the Bavarian dialect. This mantra supports a solid confidence as stone and belief in their own strength, the primary ingredients for the famous “winner DNA” Bayern. But it also means independence, tolerance and justice, which go hand in hand with typical Bavarian life. 

Since then, “Mia san mia” became our motto because, above all, we are very proud of who we are and represent to the world.“
